...What is one of the easiest and fastest ways to make kindling to start a fire?
Take a log from an ash tree, rotate it 90 degrees and cut into it with a chainsaw. In just a couple of seconds, you'll have more kindling (shavings) than you will know what to do with.

NOTE:
Take the extra and store in a garbage day for future use.

NOTE 2: This will work with other hardwoods. However, because of the greater water content in other hardwoods, you will have to dry the strips out.
