Cleaning a dryer properly involves 12 steps. But first, you will need the following tools...

Deflecto

Dewalt Electric Blower

Dundas

Dryer Vent Cleaning Kit

GIBTOOL

Vacuum Cleaner

Below are the 12 steps to properly cleaning a dryer:

1.) Pull out the lint trap. Thoroughly vacuum the lint trap as well as the inside of the housing that holds the lint trap.

2.) Vacuum all around the inside of the dryer.

3.) Unplug the dryer and gingerly pull the dryer away from the wall exposing the 4" vent hosing/pipe.

NOTE:
If this is a gas dryer, be very careful of the gas line.

4.) Disconnect the hose/vent pipe from the dryer.

5.) Stick the brush into the back of the dryer as far as you can and brush whatever you can reach thoroughly.

6.) Stick the vacuum into the back of the dryer as far as you can and vacuum it thoroughly.

7.) Stick the brush into the dryer hose/vent as far as you can and brush it thoroughly.

8.) Stick the vacuum into the dryer hose/vent as far as you can and vacuum it thoroughly.

9.) Go to the outside where the vent exits the house and stick the brush into the vent as far as you can and brush it thoroughly.

10.) Now stick the vacuum into the vent as far as you can and vacuum it thoroughly.

11.) Go back into the house, stick the Dewalt electric blower into the hose/vent and blow for a minute or so.

12.) You're all done. Now, just connect the dryer hose/vent back to the dryer, push the dryer back into place and plug the dryer back in.

Fire Prevention:
...What are 2 things I should do quite regularly with regard to a dryer to prevent a fire?
1.) Clean your dryer's filter every time you place a load into it.

2.) Every few months or so, check and clean the exhaust hose or pipe as well as the vent to the outside.

Maintenance:
...What is the proper maintenance for a dryer?
Clean the dryer's lint trap after every load.

Every week, pull out the lint trap. Thoroughly vacuum the lint trap as well as the inside of the housing that holds the lint trap.

Every 6 months or so (depending on the number of washes you do), clean your dryer vent thoroughly. See the 12 steps above under Cleaning:

Purchasing:
...What are 3 things I should always do when I buy a new dryer that will save me lots of aggravation down the line?
1.) Store the owner's manual in a safe place.

2.) Write the date and the appliance's serial number down on the front page of the owner's manual.

3.) Create a file on your computer with the make, model and serial number of the appliance as well as the date you purchased the appliance.

...How can I be sure to get a great price when buying a new dryer?
Once you decide on the exact dryer including make and model you would like to buy, take the model and shop it around. Once you get the lowest price possible, go to Home Depot or Lowes and they will beat the price by 10%.

Static Cling:
...What is an easy way to remove static cling from my dryer?

Take 3-4 square feet of aluminum foil and roll it up into a tight ball. Then, place the aluminum balls into your load of laundry that is going into the dryer. Or, you can buy dryer balls.

NOTE:
You will need 2-3 aluminum foil balls or dryer balls per load of laundry.

...Why does adding a few balls of aluminum foil to my laundry remove static cling from my dryer?

As clothes tumble around and rub against one another in the dryer, the clothes exchange electrons. One piece of laundry becomes positively charged while the other pieces of laundry come away with a negative charge.

The balls of aluminum foil discharge any static buildup that the clothes may experience as well as help keep the clothes separated-which should speed up the drying process.
