The reason why it is so important for you as a contractor to perform a job as soon as possible especially in a down/bad economy is because by nature, people are quite impatient. Most people want things done yesterday. If you were to not perform the job as soon as possible, chances are the person who you were suppose to work for will simply can you and go out and find somebody else. And of course, you know how easy that would be especially in a down/bad economy.

...As a contractor what is one thing I should almost always count on?
As a contractor, one thing you should almost always count on is the job you are estimating (for one reason or another) is going to take longer than you think.

...What are 15 ways I could earn the most amount of money possible being a contractor?

1.) Learn as much about contracting and the specific work you do as possible.

2.) Stay updated on all the latest techniques for the work you do. And then, learn them and be sure you use them on a daily basis.

3.) Stay updated on the most time efficient tools made for the type of work you do. Then, buy them and be sure you use them on a daily basis.

4.) Perform as much of the work as possible yourself.

5.) Become a pro at the type of work you do.

6.) Be able to distinguish good work from bad work.

7.) Once you become excellent at the type of work you do, find someone good, train them well and pay them well.

8.) Shop your materials.

9.) Do not start several jobs at once. Start a job and then finish the job before you continue onto another job.

10.) Learn to be incredibly organized.

11.) Learn to be incredibly proficient with your time.

12.) Be exceptionally neat.

13.) Learn to delegate the trivial tasks.

14.) Be able to distinguish good workers from bad workers.
